We are beginning a series of blog posts that were written by one of our recent interns- Asheton from SC. She is also the fabulous photographer and owner of these images. If you love hearing her perspective leave us a comment and subscribe to our blog to receive notices about her view of the work in India.

The Medical Clinic

A place where spiritual and physical healing meet, the medical clinic uses reliable medical treatment as a vessel for the spreading of the gospel in India. Staff are committed to serving their patients through examination, treatment, and spiritual guidance. While a variety of medical needs are met through this ministry, the most common treatments are for infertility, anaemia, leprosy, and digestive tract illnesses. Homeopathic medicine, which is extracted from plants, is used as an affordable form of treatment. The qualified medical staff diagnose, medicate, and follow up with their patients to ensure a well-rounded treatment plan. Along with office visits, the clinic also travels to surrounding villages to provide medical care to those unable to travel to the clinic. While the clinic provides free medicine, an examination fee equivalent to less than one dollar is required. Many difficulties arise from such a small amount of funding for all of the daily operations of the clinic

How can you help?

Along with their daily costs including medicines and supplies, the clinic is also in need of the following:

  • A new weighing scale. The current scale was donated many years ago and is inaccurate in its measurements.
  • An electronic blood pressure monitor. The clinic currently uses an outdated, manual blood pressure monitor. This creates potential for inaccurate readings.
  • A cupboard with locks. All medicine and equipment is kept on a small, open shelving unit. The cupboard would provide a more secure way to store expensive and important supplies and keep them dust free.
  • Patient beds. The clinic currently uses a pallet bed with none of the necessary functions of the typical patient bed.

Personal account: I’m sitting on a thin, metal frame while the doctor sits in a plastic chair offering me a cup of chai. He is nurturing in nature and he tells me a story that will sit with me for years to come. He says that the quality of the net determines the number of fish it will catch. An old net with holes too big from time will guarantee very few fish at the end of the trip. This is true, but a well-tended and secure net catches a plentiful harvest. He said that ministry is a net, too. The call to be fishers of men is a call that is fostered by good resources. The successfulness of the net of ministry can be multiplied by reliable resources. This is why it is critical to do ministry well- to serve others best. This is the vision and the heart cry of this clinic: to foster spiritual healing through the best physical healing possible. And this cycle of healing is dependent on the state of the net, the state of the clinic. As believers we are called to make the net better- to patch the holes to increase the yield. How will you make the net better today?
